S.W.A.M.P. READ: Alan Johnson HW 9/8
The idea of S.C.W.A.A.M.P and the reading, "Privilege, Power and Differences" by Alan Johnson recognize what groups in our culture are idealized and most accepted in this reading I really found it interesting and I really liked it Johnson explains in the reading that it is important to recognize whether you identify with a more privileged group and how we should use that to help those who are less privileged. in this reading is how those who are more affluent can get defensive and unable to move forward in becoming a solution because of their own guilt and self-blame. It does make a lot of sense, but I had never really given it much thought how affluent people's protective reactions hinder the advancement of society. In short, as Johnson explains, if we do not recognize ourselves as the problem, we cannot become the solution.
